The Ballthrower is located on John F. Kennedy Drive near the Conservatory of Flowers. It was created as a symbol of national pride by sculptor Douglas Tilden. James D. Phelan presented it to the park in 1892. A Plaque on the sculpture reads: Presented to the Golden Gate Park by a friend of the sculptor as a tribute to his energy, industry and ability. ![]() |
