Horseshoe Pits Sculpture
Return to map

This large prancing horse is a 1937 bas-relief concrete creation of Jesse S. (Vet.) Anderson, a member of the horseshoe club. It is the first thing visitors to the Horseshoe Pits see as they walk up the ramp walkway. The area was originally a red rock quarry for roads in Golden Gate Park.

The Horseshoe Pitcher can also be found at the pits. It is located on the right side as you walk toward the back of the pits. It was also created by Jesse Anderson around 1937. It is a bas-relief rendition, done in concrete, of a horseshoe player encircled by a horseshoe.
