Pioneer Log Cabin
Return to map

The Pioneer Log Cabin was built on this site in 1911 thanks in large part to P.J. "White Hat" McCarthy, a one-time mayor of San Francisco. After the 1906 earthquake had destroyed the Pioneer Hall on Fourth Street, the Association of Pioneer Women held their monthly meetings as picnics in the park. One day, the mayor saw them and was concerned over what women of such refinement would do when the rains came. He soon arranged th have the cabin placed here. It is a replica of an early settler's home. An addition was later completed in 1932.
