The recently restored Beach Chalet is the new home of the Golden Gate Park Visitor Center. The building was designed by Willis Jefferson Polk in 1924 and built in 1925. Upstairs, visitors can sample hand-made beer, and nosh on the American Bistro menu in the Beach Chalet Brewery and Restaurant. Both are open daily.
Murals of the Beach Chalet
The murals within the Beach Chalet Visitor Center were commissioned by the government's Work Progress Administration (WPA) in 1936. Lucien Labaudt was the artist chosen to design and execute the fresco paintings. The murals depict various scenes of depression era San Francisco, including the park and waterfront scene above.
