Kids have a great time riding to the music on the Herschell-Spillman Carousel at Children's Playground. The carousel has recently been restored, and the horses given a fresh coat of paint. Small children must be accompanied by an adult. Fee charged.
Mary B. Connolly Children's Playground, located off Kezar Drive, was founded in 1888. It is the nations' oldest public park playground. Other playgrounds can be found at Martin Luther King Jr. Drive near 18th Avenue, and Lincoln Way at 47th Avenue.
The concrete slides at the playground offer kids hours of fun. Bring your own cardboard for sliding.
The playground is a great place for kids and parents to get involved.
Upcoming changes
for Childrens Playground:
At 114, the Children's Playground in Golden Gate Park is undergoing a major facelift. The country's oldest public playground is in the midst of a magical transformation after years of gradual decline. Thanks to a successful fundraising effort by Friends of Recreation & Parks and the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department, the playground is now on track to become one of the "must-see" venues in the park.
